Top Bar

The strip across the top of the window: viewport modes, drawing tools, pinned recipes, the workspace switcher, align and distribute, colour tokens, and your AI token balance. On narrower windows it folds its less-used groups into popovers and a scroller instead of clipping them.

What's in it

Left to right:

  • Caddis mark — the wordmark (just the "C" glyph on narrow windows).
  • Viewport modes — Select (V), Edit (E), and the Pan tool (H, which left-drag-pans the viewer, the node graph and the timeline). See Canvas Navigation.
  • Generator shelf — Rectangle (R), Circle (O), Polygon (P), Pen (G), Text (T), plus Add Adjustment Layer and Add Null.
  • Recipes shelf — your pinned recipes as one-click icons, followed by the Recipe Book (📖). See Recipes.
  • Workspace switcher — the active panel layout; switch, save, rename, or reset. See Panels → Workspaces.
  • Align & Distribute — a Comp / Sel target toggle, six align buttons, and two distribute buttons. Operates on the selected layers' transforms as one undo step.
  • Colour tokens — the project's colour swatches. Click one to edit it, drag it onto any colour field or gradient stop to link it, and use + Color to add one. A token linked to a gradient stop stays on that stop as you add, delete and re-order stops, and the link survives saving and reopening the project.
  • AI tokens — your token balance; click it to learn more or buy.

Narrow windows

The bar measures its own width and steps through three compact layouts. Nothing disappears — it moves.

Bar widthWhat changes
under ~1400 pxAlign & Distribute collapses to a single button that opens the same ten controls in a popover. The Recipes shelf shows at most four pinned recipes; a +N button opens the Recipe Book, which lists every recipe with the pinned ones marked.
under ~1200 pxColour tokens move into a compact horizontal strip (about 160 px). Scroll it with the mouse wheel or trackpad; swatches still drag and drop exactly as before. + Color stays visible beside the strip, and a newly added colour scrolls into view with its picker open.
under ~1050 pxThe wordmark becomes just the glyph, the workspace switcher shows only its icon (the workspace name is in its tooltip), and the colour strip narrows to about 100 px.

The viewport modes, the generator shelf, the workspace switcher, and the AI token chip are always visible. Each step has a small margin before it expands back, so a window sitting right on a threshold doesn't flicker between layouts.

Clicking a tool or shelf button does not leave it focused, so it never picks up the operating system's focus outline after you reach for a keyboard shortcut. Tabbing to one still focuses it, with a visible ring.

The window itself can't be made smaller than 900 × 600. At that size both this bar and the timeline toolbar are at their most compact and still show everything.
